Product Description

Seasonal shipping notice: Due to high temperatures commonly experienced during the summer months and freezing temperatures during winter I am not able to guarantee live delivery on live cultures at these times.  For customers in urgent need of cultures and willing to take a chance I will still continue to ship cultures upon request.  As a general guideline... microworms and vinegar eels tend to ship well at temperatures between 1C (34F) and up to a maximum of 30C (86F).  Grindal worms between 1C (34F) and up to 27C (80F).  White Worms are the most heat sensitive and ship best between 1C (34F) up to a maximum of 20C (68F).  Daphnia, Moina, Brine Shrimp and Rotifer eggs are safe to ship at all temperatures. Please keep in mind that the temperatures in a mail truck or mail box on a sunny day may be significantly higher than the outdoor air temperature.

Microworms are perhaps the easiest of all live foods to culture and are an ideal first food for many types of fish fry. This auction is for a 2"x3" baggie starter culture of microworms and a handful culturing media (instant oats mixed with Bakipan yeast). You will need to provide a small plastic container to culture the microworms in. When you receive your kit simply mix some water with the provided media and add the starter culture of microworms. The worms are very tiny (full grown at 1mm) and you might not be able to see them at first but once they start to multiply you will see the surface of the culture shimmering with masses of microworms. Within a week the worms will have multiplied to the point they will be crawling up the sides of the container making them easy to harvest. You want the media to have a runny consistency at all times. If at any point it starts to dry out or skin over just add a little more water. When worm production drops off it is time to start a new culture and seed it with a teaspoon of media and worms from your old culture.

  1. Easy live food for nano fish 5 Star Review

Posted by on 16th Feb 2022

Takes about 4 days for the culture to reach the point where you can pull food from it. Super easy to maintain. I just restart the culture about once a month. Juvenile CPDs and basically anything smaller than an inch like them a lot.
