Seasonal shipping notice: Due to high temperatures commonly experienced during the summer months and freezing temperatures during winter I am not able to guarantee live delivery on live cultures at these times. For customers in urgent need of cultures and willing to take a chance I will still continue to ship cultures upon request. As a general guideline... microworms and vinegar eels tend to ship well at temperatures between 1C (34F) and up to a maximum of 30C (86F). Grindal worms between 1C (34F) and up to 27C (80F). White Worms are the most heat sensitive and ship best between 1C (34F) up to a maximum of 20C (68F). Daphnia, Moina, Brine Shrimp and Rotifer eggs are safe to ship at all temperatures. Please keep in mind that the temperatures in a mail truck or mail box on a sunny day may be significantly higher than the outdoor air temperature.
For sale here is a starter culture mix of white worms and culture media packed in 4"x3" breather baggie.
Culturing instructions:
Temperature is the biggest factor in how well your culture will do. Keep them cool, at temperatures above 65F they will stop reproducing. The ideal temperature would be between 50F-60F. I have had equally good success feeding them flake food, bread and instant oatmeal. I put the food in a single pile in the middle of the culture and cover it with a piece of glass or a tile. The worms will gather around the food in clumps making it easy to harvest them. The culture needs to be kept dark as the worms are sensitive to light. If provided with conditions that are too their liking and the population gets established you will be able to harvest worms every day.
